The NAC gears up for the Championship with the Dublin Senior Football Team

28th May 2014

The National Aquatic Centre (NAC) is delighted to continue their successful partnership with the Dublin Senior Football Team through 2014.  This is the second year of the partnership after a historic first year in 2013 which seen the Dublin team crowned as All-Ireland Champions, National League & Leinster Champions.

As part of the partnership, the Dublin Senior Footballers have access to all the waters of the Centre, including Irelands International 50 metre Competition Pool, reserved 25 metre pools for recovery work, as well as individual and group access to ToneZone Gym, and also AquaZone Water Park.

The NAC will also give access to its other venues on the National Sports Campus for any training requirements of the Dublin team, including Morton Stadium in Santry.

This unique partnership, which is year 2 of 3, is intended to be part of a long term partnership with the Dublin team and covers all senior matches including the O’Byrne Cup, the National League and the Championship.

Also this year, a similar partnership was formed with the Dublin under 21 Footballers who went on to win the Leinster and All-Ireland Championships in 2014.

The Dublin Footballers join the Irish Senior Cricket teams (Men & Women), the FAI Senior Women’s team and Irish Sports Council carded athletes as members of the NAC; as well as Swim Ireland and Paralympic Irelands Swimming squads at the NAC and on the National Sports Campus.

David Conway, CEO, National Sports Campus, said “We are delighted to welcome back the Dublin Senior Football panel to the Centre.  We’ve worked closely with them since January and we look forward to playing a part in their preparations for their Championship defence for the summer ahead. We were delighted to help Jim and his team lift their 2nd National League title in a row. Again this shows the excellent world class facility and service we offer at the Centre and on the Campus”.

Jim Gavin, Manager, Dublin Senior Football Team Manager said “We are very much looking forward to growing the successful partnership that we have with the National Aquatic Centre and its team. The NAC is a worldwide recognised state of the art sports facility that will enhance our preparation and also assist in our post match and injury recovery programmes. Used correctly, aquatic therapy is a marvellous tool in a non–weight-bearing environment as part an active recovery strategy, and our coaching staff will find excellent facilities here at the NAC ”.
