Jack Chambers TD, Minister of State for Sport and the Gaeltacht recently launched a major new national campaign by Sport Ireland, the Sport Ireland ‘Winter Initiative.’

The Sport Ireland 'Winter Initiative' is to encourage local communities of all abilities to get active this winter and try out different sports which they may have felt were outside their comfort zone before now.

Sport Ireland CEO Una May commented: “The Winter Initiative is a reminder to try and make sport and physical activity a healthy habit in our lives and part of our daily routine. Each year the National Governing Bodies and Network of Local Sports Partnerships host hundreds of events, locally and nationally. I encourage everyone to try at least one event, either virtually or in person in accordance with the current guidelines.”

The Sport Ireland Campus is inviting the community to come visit the home of Irish sport and experience the world-class high-performance environment first-hand through a series of free ‘come and try’ academy and fitness classes.

These classes are a taster of each academy run by their top-class campus coaching team throughout the year, as well as adult fitness classes from their onsite gym, Sport Ireland Campus Fitness.

The free classes will take place every Sunday over four weeks, starting January 30th.

  • Adult and inclusive swim lessons at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre
  • Adult and kids gymnastics in the National Gymnastics Training Centre
  • Kids and inclusive multiSport & athletics at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena
