Sport Ireland and Tennis Ireland have announced that Ireland will host the Davis Cup World Group II tie against China on the Sport Ireland Campus, marking a significant milestone for Irish tennis and high-performance sport on home soil.

The two-day international fixture, taking place on September 13–14, will see Ireland’s top players compete against a strong Chinese team in a bid to advance in the world’s premier men’s team tennis event.

Patrick O’Donovan, Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, said: “I’m confident the Davis Cup will be a memorable sporting event, but it’s also important to recognise the broader impact major international competitions can have — encouraging more people to get involved in sport and leaving a lasting legacy.

“These occasions also boost trade, tourism, and community spirit, supporting regional growth and strengthening Ireland’s reputation on the world stage.”

His Excellency Zhao Xiyuan, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Ireland, joined Charlie McConalogue, Minister for Sport and Postal Policy, and representatives from Sport Ireland and Tennis Ireland to announce the news at the Sport Ireland Campus.

Minister McConalogue said: “Sport tourism is a major force in the global travel industry, representing a multi-million-euro opportunity for countries that position themselves well.

“Events like the Davis Cup not only showcase Ireland as a premier sporting venue, but also highlight our island as an outstanding destination for visitors.”

His Excellency Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan said: “I am happy to know that Ireland will host the Davis Cup World Group II in September and the Chinese team will come to Ireland to play with Irish team.

“Sports play a significant role in the mutual understanding and cultural exchange between different countries. China is willing to continue mutually beneficial sports cooperation with Ireland.”

Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May said: “The Sport Ireland Campus has a proud history of hosting world-class sporting events, and we’re excited to add the Davis Cup to that legacy this year as we welcome it for the first time.

“Bringing a major international tennis tournament to Ireland marks another significant achievement for us, and we look forward to welcoming Irish and Chinese tennis fans to the Campus.”

The Davis Cup is the largest annual international team competition in world sport, with more than 150 countries taking part.

Kevin Quinn, CEO of Tennis Ireland, said: “Bringing the Davis Cup to the Sport Ireland Campus is a huge moment for Irish tennis. Not only does it give our players the chance to compete in front of a home crowd, but it also showcases Ireland’s ability to host elite-level international competition. We are proud to welcome PR China and look forward to an electric atmosphere this September.”

With capacity crowds expected and community-engagement activities planned around the tie, Tennis Ireland encourages fans to register early for ticket announcements and volunteer opportunities.

Paul McDermott, Sport Ireland Director of High Performance, said: “This year, as we prepare to welcome the Davis Cup, there is a great sense of excitement and anticipation throughout the Campus. We are eager to highlight our renowned facilities, vibrant atmosphere, and unwavering commitment to excellence, ensuring that athletes, fans, and visitors alike experience the absolute best our country has to offer.”

More details, including team line-ups, ticket sales, and media accreditation, will be shared in the coming weeks via www.tennisireland.ie

The Davis Cup announcement is not the only tennis-related news served up at the Campus recently as Sport Ireland officially opened new tennis courts at the start of June, underlining our commitment to providing world-class, accessible sporting facilities for all.

The two courts are ideally suited to Ireland’s damp climate as the recycled rubber surface is water-permeable, ensuring efficient drainage and minimal downtime – perfect for the unpredictable Irish summer.
