Sport Ireland Campus celebrates successful BeActive Campus Open Week
Today (Tuesday, October 1st), Sport Ireland Campus is celebrating a very successful inaugural BeActive Campus Open Week that saw more than 3,000 people flock to the Sport Ireland Campus to try a diverse range of classes and events for all ages and skill levels.
Among the highlights of the event – which ran from September 23-30 as part of the European Week of Sport – were clinics with Olympians and sport stars.
These included a rugby sevens skills clinic with Irish sevens player Bryan Mollen, a hockey coaching clinic with Ireland hockey international Róisín Upton, a badminton skills clinic by Olympian Nhat Nguyen, a swimming clinic with World and European medalist Shane Ryan, Gaelic free taking with Dublin GAA star Hannah Tyrrell, girls soccer skills with Irish international Roma McLaughlin, Triathlon with Jason Moore, and a Tadhg Leader kicking clinic.
Sport Ireland CEO Dr Úna May said: “The BeActive Campus Open Week was an absolute triumph. The energy and enthusiasm from the local community and visitors alike were truly inspiring.
“We were thrilled to see people of all ages and abilities dive into a wide array of sports and activities, made possible through our partnerships with the National Governing Bodies of Sport.
“There was something for everyone, whether they were looking to soak up the high-performance atmosphere at Sport Ireland Campus or try their hand at a new sport for the first time. The excitement and positive spirit really made it a week to remember."
Twenty-one different National Governing Bodies took part, and highlights of the week included a Glow Up Run Party in collaboration with Fingal Sports and Active Cities Dublin, and an Age Friendly Ireland sports taster day.
As part of the European Week of Sport, the initiative aligns with Sport Ireland’s broader goal of increasing participation in sports and physical activity.
